Welcome to What Did We Just Watch?

You know that moment when the credits roll and you’re sitting there like…

Wait… what did we just watch?

Same.

Have you ever finished a movie and thought… wait—what was that really trying to say? This podcast is where we take that feeling—and don’t just move on. We dig in.

What Did We Just Watch? is a multimedia podcast that explores how movies and media shape the way we see identity, relationships, and systems of power. We break down the “-isms” that show up in storytelling—sometimes obvious, sometimes subtle, sometimes completely normalized—and ask what those messages are really doing.

Because media doesn’t just entertain—it teaches. It reinforces. It challenges. It sticks with us.

Because media is never neutral.

This podcast takes a deeper look at the stories we’ve grown up with—the ones we love, the ones we quote, and the ones we didn’t question…until now.

And when we go back and watch them again with a more critical lens? There’s usually a lot more there than we realized.

This space is about holding both things at once: the harm and the hope.

This space is about dialogue, not answers—about moving these conversations beyond classrooms and into everyday life, where they belong.

So whether you’re new here or already watching differently…you’re in the right place.

What Did We Just Watch? is grounded in a commitment to the foundations of DEIPAR -Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Intersectionality, Power, and Anti-Racism (Dyer & Gushwa, 2024).

This is a space where all voices are welcome—and where we are all invited to grow, question, and learn together. You don’t need to have the “right” language or all the answers to be here. Curiosity, reflection, and a willingness to engage are what matter most.

I encourage you to take risks, ask questions, and engage in conversations that may feel uncomfortable. Learning requires openness—and a willingness to be wrong. Growth often happens in those moments.

At the same time, this space is rooted in respect and accountability. Ignorance is not an excuse for harm. Language or actions that reinforce discrimination, exclusion, or harm toward others are not aligned with the purpose of this space and will not be tolerated.

The goal is not perfection—it’s progress. Together, we can build a space that challenges us, supports us, and pushes conversations forward in meaningful ways.

I invite you into the conversation—share your reflections, ask questions, and bring your perspective. This space only grows through each of us taking risks.
