Hi, I’m Coco.
I’m Coco - social worker, DSW candidate, lifelong movie lover, mom, and the voice behind What Did We Just Watch?
I’ve spent over 20 years in social work, most of that time walking alongside people navigating systems that don’t always work the way they should—healthcare, mental health, community support. And somewhere along the way, I realized something: the stories we consume about people, systems, and “problems” don’t just entertain us…they shape how we understand the world.
And for me, that started with movies.
From watching films as a kid to studying them more intentionally through my education and now my doctoral work, I’ve always been drawn to how narratives are constructed—who gets centered, who gets silenced, and what we’re being taught without even realizing it.
This podcast—and this Capstone—is where those worlds come together.
Through, What Did We Just Watch?, we explore the “isms” embedded in media—racism, sexism, ableism, and more—not to cancel or critique for the sake of critique, but to slow down, ask thoughtful questions, and invite all of us to watch more intentionally.
I’m doing this work from a place of both professional expertise and personal experience. As a social worker, I’ve seen firsthand how representation impacts real people—how it shapes policy, influences care, and reinforces (or challenges) the systems we operate within. As a viewer, I’ve also been moved, comforted, and even changed by the stories I’ve watched.
What Did We Just Watch? asks each of us to hold space for both the harm and hope contained within the media we consume.
I don’t have all the answers—and that’s the point.
This space is about curiosity, reflection, and sometimes sitting in the discomfort of realizing that what we’ve always accepted as “just entertainment” might be doing more than we thought.
So…..what did we just watch?
